Frequently Asked Liquor License Questions Pt: 1

Starting a business is no easy task and being in the Hospitality industry it does not make it any easier. That’s why we want to provide information to our clients that could potentially make their day just a tiny bit easier!

Frequently Asked Questions:

Can you sell alcoholic beverages on Sunday at 10:00 a.m.?

Yes, with an Entrée, But it Can NOT be chips and dip, assuming its a restaurant.

How much distance from a school or church building does a night club need to be?

It would have to be over 1000 ft but you would also have to check the city/county ordinance.

I have a restaurant and want to get a liquor license what do I need to know?

  • -The location would have to qualify. being that it is the qualifying distance from any schools, churches, etc.
  • -The applicant would also need to qualify.
  • -It takes approximately 90 days to process from start to finish. (unless there are unforeseen delays)

I have a convenience store in my neighborhood selling beer on Sunday morning. Is this legal?

Depends on the type of TABC permit that the store has, but normally its Noon to Mid-night.

I have a mobile bartending business and want to get a Liquor license, what do I need to do?

You would need to find a permanent location, more specifically a Brick and mortar with a commercial kitchen and be aware of distances from school, churches, daycares, etc.

I did not renew my license on time, what do I do?

If you did not renew during the 30 day grace period you would have to reapply for a new TABC permit.

I am opening a hookah bar and want to sell alcohol, what do I need to do?

The same rules would apply as the restaurant in that the location would have to qualify, the applicant would have to qualify, and it takes about 90 days.

I am in a DRY area and would like to sell alcohol, what can I do?

Certain areas may require a private club registration permit, but further details would be needed to determine this.

Our church is having a #festival/bazaar coming up and would like to sell alcohol, what do we need to do?

Make sure you start the process over 30 days before the event date. The closer you get to the event date it may cost an additional $300-900.

We don’t have a license to sell alcohol but want to provide it is there anything we can do? Can we BYOB?

Are you going to sell or give it away? Certain circumstances can disqualify a location from doing so, more information would be needed to answer this question properly.

Can we have alcohol in the parking lot of our licensed premise?

Further information would be required, but you could rope the area so that it is an extension of the licensed premise. The roped-off area would also have to be secured.

Is it permissible to take beverages outside a #bar? I.e. to a separate patio area or to vehicles?

It depends on the type of TABC permit that the location has. Because some permits are for On and Off-premises.

What is the law on clubs after hours?

The hours are based on the type of TABC permit that is held. However, there isn’t a permit that allows you to sell Alcohol after 2 am.
