Temporary & Catering Liquor Permits in Texas

Good morning, Today we are going to go over the process behind getting Temporary and Catering liquor permits in Texas. If you have seen our YouTube video this is a summary with more details.

First, Let’s go over the Requirements there are four pieces to this.

1. You have to get the Landlords Approval so that you can actually sell on the premises.

2. You will need to have a Map indicating the location of the Booths/Tents.

3. You will have to get the City/County approval if necessary depending on where the event is going to take place.

4. You need to provide the Sponsorship agreement, if applicable.

Next, what is the date(s) of the event? The Timing is very important because depending on how close to the event date you submit the paperwork to TABC there could be an additional cost associated with the permit. We recommend that permits be submitted 30-45 days prior if possible. If that is not possible there could be additional costs that could be associated, the fees are listed below:

*$300 for applications received 9 to 7 business days prior to the event per permit.

*$500 for applications received 6 to 4 business days prior to the event per permit.

*$900 for applications received 3 to 1 business days prior to the event per permit.

*Referred to as Expedited Processing Fees, more on this later.

Next, let’s discuss the Cost of permits not subject to the fees above. There are 2 basic types:

**Temporary Wine and Beer Retailers permit which is $231 per permit per day

and

Daily Temporary Mixed Beverage permit which is $251 per permit per day

**This permit is issued in 4-day increments

You can also apply for a Catering permit depending on the type of permits you already hold. The Catering permit is valid in increments of 10 Days at a time.

As mentioned above, let’s talk a little bit about the “Expedited Processing Fees”, now these fees are a bit of a misnomer because they don’t actually speed up the permitting process at all that is just what they are called. We would prefer that our clients not have to pay these fees by getting all the paperwork submitted 30-45 days in advance.

If you plan on selling liquor at an event give us a call and we would love to help you!
